James A. Donnelly is a television producer, podcast pioneer, and multimedia educator with more than 35 years of experience in the television, radio, and digital media industry. He works in Broadcast Operations at Marywood University, where he also teaches courses in audio production, television production, and podcasting. His students have received multiple Mid-Atlantic Student Emmy nominations for live sports and studio productions.

Early in his career, Donnelly worked as a producer on regional television programs including PM Magazine, Pennsylvania Outdoor Life, and Newswatch 16, and in promotions at WBRE-TV. He later spent a decade working in California in post-production, music, and digital media, including work as a video compressionist on major studio film releases for DVD such as Shrek and Jurassic Park III while at Deluxe Entertainment. During that time, he also worked at Tarpan Studios with Grammy-winning producer Narada Michael Walden, produced video content for Drum Channel, and produced a DW Drums instructional DVD. He also worked for a software development company producing interactive media, including the Puff the Magic Dragon app.

In San Francisco, in 2005, he became involved in early podcast production and signed with podcasting pioneer Adam Curry, co-inventor of podcasting, producing nationally distributed programs during the early years of the medium, including projects that aired on Sirius Satellite Radio.

He has been nominated five times for Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, winning two, and is the recipient of five Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Awards for excellence in television production.

In addition to his work at Marywood, Donnelly produces, directs, and markets the mental health series Mind Over Matter on PBS WVIA-TV, distributed across multiple platforms. He developed the PennsylvaniaPBS.org website and led marketing efforts for the statewide Battling Opioids public media initiative, which received a National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) Award for public media marketing.
In addition to his production work, Donnelly has been active in music performance and songwriting. He was an original member of the band SYNCH, whose song “Where Are You Now” became a national Billboard chart hit in the late 1980s. He also co-wrote and produced the song “Keep the Home Fires Burning” for WNEP-TV in 1991, created in support of the families of U.S. troops during the Gulf War, a project that raised more than $20,000 for Operation Yellow Ribbon.

Throughout his career, Donnelly has produced award-winning videos, podcasts, apps, and websites for a wide range of clients and organizations, including The New York Times, Deluxe Entertainment, and regional and national media partners. Outside of his broadcast work, he has long been involved in animal rescue efforts. One of his personal projects was launching PetsOnBoard.com in 1995, one of the early online pet adoption websites, reflecting his ongoing interest in animal welfare and community service.

His work has also included writing, music production, and digital media development, reflecting a long-standing commitment to creative storytelling, education, and innovation.
